Air heat sink
Overview of products, technologies and production
Air and liquid coolers are primarily made of aluminium or copper due to their high thermal conductivity. However, some applications now also require stainless steel as the base material due to particularly aggressive environmental conditions.
Technology & Function
Air heat sinks, also known as air coolers, finned coolers or profiled heat sinks, play a crucial role in the thermoregulation of electronic devices. Their purpose is to maintain the operating temperature of power electronic components at an optimum level to ensure efficient performance and longevity. Air heat sinks rely on natural or forced convection to dissipate heat. Surface area increase is critical in air coolers as it is directly linked to heat dissipation efficiency. The air cooler usually consists of fins or ribs that increase the surface area of the heat sink. These structures serve to maximise the contact area between the heat source and the surrounding air. The larger the surface area of the fins, the more air can come into contact and the more efficiently the heat can be dissipated. Normally, special high-performance cooling profiles can only be realised with high profile tool costs, minimum moulding quantities and larger tolerance ranges. With our cooling systems, we offer you maximum design flexibility at favourable conditions.
